Here is a recent post from me on the forums:
I think that the NDA is my responsibility to allow the game to improve and hide its progress throughout development. With many open dev indies developing these days, I think more and more people have come to realize how bad a game can be at its first stages. As you can see, many still complain and ridicule the devs at a pre alpha stage, and bringing it down, especially ruining its reputation. Showing this to the public can bring in especially bad press, influencing many to not consider the fact that in a pre alpha or alpha stage things are... well, all I can really describe it as is mediocre. Many do not realize the delays and troubles behind the scenes just for the beta development stage. So by WG giving me a game they know I am passionate about, gives me the feel that I am the one who holds this information, and if it is leaked, the consequences on me are nothing compared to the consequences faced by the game I am in a way "ruining."
Sometimes I think closed dev is dumb,
But in the end, It is pretty damn smart.
Publishers still suck tho.
The thing is, with open dev games like Star Citizen, and other crowd funded games, The community feels like a part of the dev team, helping improve the game. I think an alpha testing community is quite like that, except to a smaller scale. The thing is, I hope many open development communities in an indie or non publishing environment are more open to new ideas and taking their privileges as acting on as a QA team, to work together and help the game improve, contribute ideas and criticism, instead of complaining even without reading the "ALPHA WORK IN PROGRESS" thing on the side and saying," Nuub gam sux fire da guld ammo op." Well, maybe that is a bit exaggerated, but I think you know what I mean. The game changes over time, and I hope people can embrace the idea that YOU can help change it, but complaining doesn't change any mind, and DEFINITELY NOT SerB's.
I think if communities could change, then press could change, then many games would start going into open dev, but of course, that's never gunna happen cause we still need money to make a game. Soooo go help fund games and get them past 2 million cause no one's EVER going to get to 50M because no one else has Chris Roberts behind it.
LESSON: Get Chris Roberts or John Ramero behind ur gams and ull mak alut of munny
So... with these games at gamescom with new sneak peeks, just keep in mind the idea that games aren't easy, and...
I might get a lot of hate for this but...
